Shangri La Mongolia Update: No Hotel

Ulaanbaatar Shangri La Hotel This is the latest version of what will be build next to the opera building. It still says Shangri La, but apperently it will not be a hotel anymore, but just office facilities. The former printing house, more to the north of the square is being torn down apperently to make place for a... hotel.

No, not the printing house!!! They are distroying the few buildings related with UB's history. Very sad.

Our corrupt politicians might sell for some own benefits even their own mother! Its no wonder that soon there will be no a tiny empty space around UB. The printing house is one of the oldest in UB and I'm not surprised and can even suggest that the whole story with this hotel building is connected with some bribes. Sad to see that UB will not have another historical place!

If you look at that sign closely it says "Shangri La Mongolia LLC". It has nothing to do with the Shangri La hotel chain at all. It was all a marketing gimmick.

Old buildings in UB must be destroyed, as they do NOT represent the history of this country (xcept the Bogd Khaan Winter Palace and Gandan Monastery). The real sad part of this story is that those rotten politicians will sell the space next to the government house for hotel or whatever, and a guest of the hotel will be looking down to the Government house from his/her window... They are ready to fight for months (Gurragchaa) for a sit in the Parlianment- and if You think he/she does it for the good of the country- You are wrong. PLAIN AND SIMPLE- FOR THEIR OWN GOOD, to make as much MONEY FOR THEMSELVES as possible, during these 4 years, and live happily ever after... These dudes up there suck... Same if not worse than the Communists they have replaced some 15 years ago.
